However, Sarah starts finding it difficult to get up in the
mornings – not like her at all. She drops out of her
netball team – she says, "I've got to concentrate
on my SATS." Her mum and dad try to get to the bottom
of it and find that Sarah has got pains in her knees and ankles.
There's a disease that stops joints working properly –
it's called arthritis.
Do you know anyone with arthritis?
Sarah's doctor is worried that Sarah may have a special
form of arthritis called rheumatoid arthritis.
Sarah has some images taken at her hospital by a Radiographer.
These show that Sarah has not got arthritis.
So what's wrong with Sarah's feet and ankles? She goes to
see a person whose special work is feet and ankles –
a Podiatrist.
She also sees anOrthotist
who does a special scan of her feet. The Podiatrist says
that she is straining her feet– perhaps by overworking
them. The podiatrist also notices that Sarah has started wearing
some very trendy new shoes and says, "These are making
things worse."
Sarah also sees a Physiotherapist.
He helps Sarah get over the strains in her knee and foot joints
and helps her plan her sports acitivities so she doesn't damage
herself.
