You
may have finished your GCSEs or GNVQs.
You may have started your A-levels or
vocational studies in healthcare.
You may have decided what you want from
a job – but you are not sure where
to start or how to get into your chosen field.
If so, you’re probably
thinking about your future and wondering what career you should
choose.
You will want a career that’s rewarding and interesting;
allows you to meet a variety of different people; you want
new challenges and opportunities; you want a decent starting
salary with an opportunity for continuing promotion; you want
a career that can develop and be flexible as your life changes
and you want more than just a job – you want to make
a difference to people’s lives.
Too much to ask?
Maybe not! Have you considered training as an Allied Health
Professional (AHP)? AHPs are people like you from a diverse
range of backgrounds with a wide range of skills and interests.
They are using their interest in drama, physiotherapy, diet
or engineering to diagnose and treat illness; helping people
recover from disease or injury, or improving their quality
of life.
To find out more about these
challenging and rewarding careers, start by reading this New
Generations booklet which covers what a variety of AHPs do
in a day’s work. If one of these careers sounds like
the one for you, contact the relevant allied health professional
body for more detailed career information (you will find these
outlined in the booklet), then check out the UCAS website
(www.ucas.co.uk)
for course entry requirements.
