The New Generations Schools’ website
The site focuses on providing schools and young people with
materials especially aligned to the National Curriculum.
The site is for use by teachers and young people all over England to give them a
flavour of what Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) do within health and social
care and our communities. If you are to become an ambassador for the New
Generations programme it would be beneficial for you to familiarise yourself
with the content of the site – get a feel for how students will be
learning about the various professions and their roles. We would also recommend
that teachers have worked with the site before you book a visit.
You can then use the content of the site (and the experiences that the students
have had whilst working with the site) to bring your presentation and personal
experience as an AHP to the fore when engaging with students.
A brief overview of the site:
The content with the Standard Zone is intended for work with
Key Stage 2 pupils (7-11yrs) and aims to introduce the work of a group of AHPs.
In doing this the site offers materials and suggestions to support work within
the National Curriculum guidelines – most specifically Science, English
and ICT, but also Mathematics. More generally Personal, Social and Health
Education (PSHE) is supported throughout.
The Extended Zone aims to introduce Key Stage 3 (11-14 yrs)
pupils to the work of a group of AHPs at a time when they may be beginning to
think about subject choices and exploring possible career options. This section
of the site offers materials and suggestions to support work within Personal,
Social and Health Education (PSHE), although worksheets extend beyond this into
suggestions for English (including creative writing), Drama and Media.
Information contained in the material and questions raised by it will extend
into wider discussions relevant to Citizenship.
The Post 16 section houses a PDF of a careers booklet, which is
a comprehensive promotional guide to 9 AHP careers. We have also provided some
useful website links for students to investigate further.
